Bi-Weekly racing update!
It has been a busy couple of weeks for GCU athletes, competing in races all over the country and as far as China!
Last weekend saw our track and field convener (Jack 'potato' McComb'), along with a group of freshers starting in September head along to Grangemouth for the Scottish u20 Track and Field Championships.
Jack led the medal rush for GCU, finishing 2nd in the mens 400m Hurdles in a time of 58.29 seconds. He followed this up with a 7th place over the flat 400 event, in a time of 52.8 seconds. Shona Ross finished in 3rd in the Triple Jump, jumping 11.80m. Andrew Peck threw 44.89m for third in the mens Discus and Heather Fawcett narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing 4th in the Hammer Throw.
Grangemouth once again saw a large GCU contingent pound its track, a week later. This time for the Scottish Senior Championships, which saw our athletes take away a total of 5 medals.
Catherine Palmer finished joint third in the High Jump, with a jump of 1.61m. Recent Graduate Chloe Lambert, tasted double success over the 100m (12.01) and 200m (24.69) events, claiming 3rd in both events respectively. Twins Alec and Kade Thomas went head to head over the 100m and 200m. Kade finished 3rd (10.86 & 22.18) in both with Alec (11.02 & 22.54) 5th in both events.
There were also a few narrow misses, as Jack finished 4th in the mens 400m Hurdles, in a time of 57.79- half a second faster than his time last week. He also finished 5th in the mens 400m semi final (51.44 seconds). Shona was also fourth in the triple jump, with a best jump of 11.71m.
Lizzie Murdoch was 7th in her 100m heat in a time of 13.54m. Iain 'Lady Killer' Wilson was 6th in his 400m heat in a time of 52.25 and Heather Fawcett was 6th in the ladies Hammer Throw, throwing 44.89m
Elsewhere, twins Chloe and Ashleigh Macdonald, competed in the Glasgow event of the Womens Running Series. Chloe finished a fantastic 5th place over the 10km circuit, with Ashleigh in 43rd, not bad considering she's not had much time to train,
